An elderly driver who killed a toddler in Edinburgh after mounting a pavement likely had undiagnosed dementia – a fatal accident inquiry has heard.
On the first day of the inquiry into the death of three-year-old Xander Irvine in June 2020, the sheriff said 91-year-old Edith Duncan was a driver who “slipped through the system,” as it examines if enough safeguards and processes are in place for older motorists renewing their licences.
