Edinburgh is to become Scotland’s first short-term lets control zone after the Scottish Government approved a bid by city leaders.
The move aims to crack down on AirBnB-style accommodation. It means anyone letting out an entire residential property which is not their main home on a short-term let basis will have to apply for planning permission – as well as applying for a license, something that was passed earlier this year. Some businesses say they fear the changes will cost them their livelihoods.
