The DVLA says it will consider changes for the licencing of older drivers next year following a fatal accident inquiry into the death of a three-year-old boy in Edinburgh.

Xander Irvine was killed by a 91-year-old motorist with undiagnosed dementia back in 2020.

His parents say the rules must be tightened as quickly as possible.

A sheriff previously ruled Xander’s death could have been avoided, and the current system of over-70s self-certifying was “significantly defective”.
