Drugs deaths rise despite treatment targets being met

More than 1,000 people died from drugs in Scotland in 2022.

Despite a rise in drugs deaths, treatment services in Scotland are meeting many key targets set by the Scottish Government.

Medication Assisted Treatment standards aimed at improving same-day access to support, a choice in medication and help to remain in treatment has been achieved in 90% of cases.

But more work is needed to improved mental health help and address a shortage of staff.
