An overhaul of addiction services, reform of drugs laws and substantially more money to deliver treatment – just some of the recommendations made in the final report of a taskforce set up to halt overdoses and deaths.
After 3 years, the group has finally delivered its findings and they criticise the woefully inadequate underfunding of services. The head of the taskforce says a culture change is needed and a focus on punishment must end. Campaigners and addiction workers claim the report mirrors a situation they have been highlighting for years. Families say they’re hopeful of real change.
