Drugs consumption room users will not be prosecuted

Glasgow's plans will go before officials later this month

The opening of Scotland’s first safe drug consumption room has moved a step closer to reality after the Lord Advocate has made clear prosecuting the users of such a facility for simple possession charges would “not be in the public interest”.

Dorothy Bain’s comments come in the wake of increasing calls for a pilot to be allowed in Glasgow.

Its been seen as a green light by city officials, drugs groups and campaigners to press ahead with the proposals that have so far been rejected by the Home Office.
