Whenever we hear about long waiting lists in Scotland’s hospitals, we’re told that delayed discharges – people still being on the wards who don’t need to be – are a big part of causing that backlog.
Now a price has been put on how much that’s costing the health service – £440m in a year.
The Scottish Government says it has invested in trying to ease the blockages, but accepts more needs to be done.
