Deaf man wrongly believed he had HIV due to lack of interpreters

Now a new app is being launched which connects deaf users to interpreters within minutes.

Going to the doctors or hospital is often already a daunting experience for many, but even more so if you’re deaf and use British Sign Language, and no interpreters are there to help.

That’s what happened to one man who wrongly believed he had HIV for two days due to the lack of an experienced interpreter at the hospital.

Now, a new app is being launched which connects deaf users to interpreters within minutes.

Charities welcome the service, but say too many inequalities and challenges still exist for the deaf community.
