Covid Inquiry hears Sturgeon deleted pandemic WhatsApp messages

In August 2021 the former first minister gave her assurances no messages would be off limit

Nicola Sturgeon deleted all of her WhatsApp messages from the pandemic. That’s what the UK Covid 19 inquiry in Edinburgh heard today.

The former First Minister had previously refused to say if she’d kept the communications and stated that Scottish Government decisions were not made using the messaging platform.

The inquiry also revealed that the National Clinical Director Jason Leitch referred to deleting WhatsApp messages as a “pre-bed ritual.”

The inquiry saw messages from Nicola Sturgeon’s former chief of staff describing the UK Government’s emergency COBRA meetings as a “shambles” adding that Boris Johnson ignored their calls for reassurance.
