Oil and gas can’t be extracted from two new controversial fields in the North Sea and off Shetland unless more environmental impact assessments are completed.
That’s the ruling from Scotland’s highest court, who say emissions by burning fuels extracted from Jackdaw and Rosebank weren’t taken into account when they were approved.
The environmental groups who brought the case to Edinburgh’s Court of Session last year say it’s a historic win.
Energy experts say the ruling won’t necessarily stop wells from producing.
