Court finds Edinburgh short lets legislation unlawful

The scheme came as a response to concerns that short lets exacerbated housing shortages

A licensing scheme to regulate Airbnb style lets in the capital has been judged as unlawful by the court of session.

A group of operators and landlords launched the biggest ever crowd funded legal challenge to oppose the rules, raising more than £300,000 to bring the challenge.

They are hailing it as a victory — but campaigners say the ruling is undemocratic and the council leader said he is disappointed.
