Council to spend £1m upgrading school walking routes after complaints

Buses were cut for hundreds of children this year when the council raised the eligibility threshold.

North Lanarkshire Council is spending more than £1m to upgrade school walking routes they previously said were acceptable.

School buses were cut for hundreds of children this year when the council raised the eligibility threshold from two to three miles.

The decision meant pupils were forced to walk through routes some parents deemed unsafe, including near waterways and high-speed roads.
