Cost of Living Crisis: Financial strain and mental health

How some people are coping with stress as prices continue to rise

Inflation is at a 40 year high. The price of food, fuel and energy is now squeezing Household Incomes on a level not seen since the 1980s. And it’s looking increasingly like we are heading for a recession.

A special Scotpulse survey, commissioned by STV News, has found most of us now feel the cost of living crisis is impacting on our lives, through one way or another. Over the course of this week, we’ll be looking at various aspects of how this crisis is affecting how we feel; how we eat; how we look after our families and how we make ends meet. We’ll also be asking what the Scottish and UK Governments are doing to help with the cost of living.

Tonight we’re here in Inverclyde, a beautiful part of the west coast with historic links to ship building and industry. But neighbourhoods here are within the most deprived council area in Scotland – and now they are facing even tougher times ahead. We’ll be examining how the financial strain is affecting mental health in the area.
