Consultation underway to ban ‘conversion therapy’

Ministers insist family life and religious beliefs will be protected

The Equalities minister insists proposals to ban what’s known as “conversion therapy” will end harmful acts while protecting family life and religious beliefs.

“Conversion therapy” seeks to change someone’s sexual or gender identity and a consultation on the Scottish Government’s plans to criminalise the practice is now underway.

Opponents say they’ll take legal action, if the new law threatens free speech or criminalises advice given in good faith.
