Concerns NHS Grampian lacks capacity for neonatal plans

Documents warn Aberdeen unit may lack beds and staff

NHS Grampian has ‘insufficient capacity’ to cope with plans which would see the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital being the only neonatal intensive care unit for the North of Scotland.

Internal documents revealed in a Freedom of Information request by the Scottish Conservatives show concerns that there wouldn’t be sufficient beds or staff for sick babies from other areas, including NHS Tayside.

A campaigner told STV News she fears some babies might not survive the journey.
