Communities facing ‘humanitarian crisis’ say campaigners

The sharp cost of living rise is meaning some people are having to chose between heating and eating

Communities across Scotland are facing a “humanitarian crisis” as they grapple with the cost of living.

That’s the warning from campaigners who fear some people might not make it through the winter.

Christmas is just a fortnight away – but for many, celebrating it is a luxury they can’t afford, as they face daily worries about food, heating bills, and housing conditions.

It comes as more than sixty “warm spaces” are opened around Edinburgh – to give locals an alternative to heating their homes.

Community venues are offering free hot meals, social events and financial advice to people facing hardship.
