Chancellor rejects calls to axe windfall tax on north east visit

Rachel Reeves has backed her decision to extend the tax on energy firms.

The chancellor has rejected calls to axe the windfall tax on oil and gas firms ahead of the 2030 deadline.

On a visit to Moray and Aberdeenshire on Friday, Rachel Reeves backed her decision to extend the tax on energy firms.

It comes as industry, businesses groups, unions and opposition politicians have called on the UK Government to ditch the Energy Profits Levy ahead of its current sunset clause in five years time.
