There have been celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
75 is a good age, it might be said, but a check-up would provide cause for concern.
Threatened strike action. Staff shortages. Long waiting lists. Unnecessary deaths. Many of the problems could well be described as chronic.
And the future looks challenging with the need for increased support. Senior staff have today been awarded a 6% pay increase, but junior doctors are preparing to walk out next week over their pay.
But it is dearly loved and, despite the talk of its imminent demise, there is still life and hopes for the future.
