Caution urged as Fife council considers introducing tourist tax

Some are welcoming the idea saying the money could be reinvested in local tourism.

There’s a warning Fife can’t take a “one size fits all” approach, if it follows Edinburgh in introducing a tourist tax.

From summer next year, visitors to the capital will be charged an extra 5% on overnight stays.

Fife Council is currently consulting with businesses on whether to do the same.

Some are welcoming the idea saying the money could be reinvested in local tourism, others fear it will just turn visitors away.
