‘Catalogue of failures’ led to babies being given wrong morphine doses

Seven children were found to have been under-medicated for pain relief.

Charlotte Gilchrist was just a tiny baby – 11 weeks old – when she underwent open heart surgery at Glasgow’s Childrens Hospital last summer.

Charlotte should have been made as comfortable as possible after the operation.

But, a blunder at the hospital meant she wasn’t given enough morphine and left enduring her recovery in pain.

A review has now revealed a catalogue of failures at the hospital which led to seven children all being under-medicated for pain relief.
