Scotland’s top lawyer says a referendum on Scottish independence would be entirely advisory and would have no legal effect.
The Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain is asking a panel of judges at the Supreme Court in London to decide whether Holyrood can hold a vote without the agreement of Westminster.
However, the UK Government argues Holyrood does not have the power to hold another referendum because it relates to matters reserved to Westminster.
