Care homes ‘entirely unprepared’ for Covid hears inquiry

Shelagh McCall KC said care staff had no guidance on how to prevent the virus spreading

Care homes were “entirely unprepared” for the coronavirus pandemic which led to residents suffering from neglect, dehydration and starvation – that’s what a lawyer representing families has told the Scottish Covid-19 inquiry.

In one home, they were forced to use air freshener to clean as all alcohol products were locked in a cupboard.

The inquiry, now in its second day, has been hearing from bereaved relatives of care home residents as it investigates the whole handling of the pandemic by the Scottish Government.
