Cancer treatment costs women £40,000 after misdiagnosis

Irene Hartshorn was told she'd have to wait twelve weeks for treatment in Scotland

A woman who spent tens of thousands of pounds travelling to England for cancer treatment says she’s speaking up so nobody else has to go through the same thing.

Irene Hartshorn was originally misdiagnosed with bowel cancer – and faced an agonising wait for treatment for what was actually ovarian cancer.

Her treatment cost an estimated £40,000 and Irene believes she wouldn’t be here if they hadn’t taken such drastic action – she now wants to see politicians work together to improve the care being offered in Scotland.
