Cancer patients face ‘eternal’ waits as targets missed

Nearly 18,000 delayed over five years, with no health board meeting 62-day treatment standard

Cancer patients have told STV News of the mental anguish caused by “eternal” waits as new figures show almost 18,000 people in Scotland faced delays in starting treatment over the last five years.

After an urgent referral, 95% of patients should wait no longer than 62 days to start treatment – but not a single health board has met this standard.

The health secretary insists progress is being made.
