Cameron House enquiry begins five years after fire

Simon Midgley and his partner Richard Dyson died in the blaze at Cameron House in 2017

It’s taken almost five years – but the fatal accident inquiry into a blaze at one of Scotland’s top hotels is underway.

In a statement read out in court, Simon’s mother described how she is tortured every day by the thought of him trapped in the building, trying to get out.

The hotel operators have already been fined half a million pounds, This inquiry is not to establish blame but to look at issues around fire and guest safety.

On first day, the sheriff heard the 999 call made by a hotel manager and of attempts to evacuate the burning hotel.
