Calls for more research into eating disorders and menopause

Now Scottish GPs are adding their voices to calls for urgent research on the issue

A woman, who began starving herself and experiencing suicidal thoughts, is calling for more research to be done on eating disorders during the menopause.

Although they’re most commonly associated with teenage girls, there’s growing evidence that menopausal women are also prone to extreme dieting.

It’s thought hormonal changes and the use of some therapies can lead to weight gain and trigger a full-blown eating disorder.
