Businesses see little improvement three years after Brexit

An Ipsos poll suggests that most people think Brexit is going worse than expected

Three years to the day since the UK cut ties with the European Union Rishi Sunak claims the country is forging a new path as an independent nation.

However the Scottish Government argues there is clear evidence Brexit has been hugely damaging.

Many businesses here say it has made trading with EU nations far more complicated.

Asked what are the benefits of Brexit the Prime Minister points to the fastest vaccine rollout, plans to cut red tape and recently the freeports he announced on the Forth and Cromarty Firth.

But opponents point out that the Office for Budget Responsibility reckons the UK economy will be 4% worse off because of Brexit, there is a shortage of workers and export opportunities have fallen.

The IMF today warns that the UK economy is shrinking, the worst performance in the G7.

Despite all of that there is no political drive at Westminster for rejoining the EU.
