Anger after man given community service for raping 13-year-old

Sean Hogg from South Lanarkshire was given a community payback order

A punishment that doesn’t fit the crime.

There has been an angry reaction to the sentence given to a man who raped a 13-year-old girl.

He carried out the assaults in Dalkeith Country Park in 2018.

Victims’ charities say it is too lenient.

The judge issued 21-year old Hogg with 270 hours of unpaid work as a direct alternative to jail time.

New sentencing guidelines for under-25s focuses on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
