‘Ambulance stacking’ leaving patients waiting for hours

The ambulance service says the problems in the North East pose the highest risk to the service.

It’s an ongoing problem at the North East’s biggest hospital.

Some patients are spending hours in ambulances lined up outside Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s emergency department.

The time it takes for crews to get back on the road at NHS Grampian is more than double that of other health boards, including neighbouring Tayside.

Tonight its outgoing boss said sorry to those affected.

But the Scottish Ambulance Service says the problems in the North East pose the highest risk to the service.

STV News joined paramedics in Aberdeen who say regular ambulance stacking is impacting their ability to treat patients.
