Ambulance serviced braced for winter says Health Secretary

The Scottish Government says it has dedicated £50m to the ambulance service this winter

The Health Secretary has told STV News the ambulance service is braced for a challenging winter, as demand for services and hospital turnaround times increase.

More than 50% of all emergency patients are now treated at home or on scene – avoiding the need to go to A&E.

But the head of the service is warning scenes of ambulances “stacked up” outside emergency departments could continue, as frustrated paramedics often wait hours to hand patients over.
