Alcohol advertising ban considered to tackle deaths

There were more than 1,200 deaths related to alcohol in the country in 2021

Measures to tackle Scotland’s problem with alcohol could see some advertising banned and the way alcohol is sold in shops changing.

Charities have called for a total ban on the advertising and sponsorship of the product in a bid to protect vulnerable and young people.

A consultation has been taking place that could restrict where it is sold in shops, but there are concerns from the drinks industry.

But the industry says it’s already heavily restricted and takes its responsibilities seriously.
