Abuse cases pilot scheme sees drop in number of witnesses on the stand

Cases being dealt with more quickly, with some not even required to be tried in front of a sheriff

A pilot scheme rolled out in courtrooms in Hamilton, Paisley and Dundee has seen a significant drop in the number of witnesses having to take the stand in domestic abuse cases.

One woman – whose name has been changed to protect her identity – says she’s been left “broken” by her experiences, and hopes the initiative will soon be rolled out nationwide.
