Aberdeen University to cut jobs in bid to make £5.5m savings

The institute says the cuts are needed this year to plug a financial gap.

The University of Aberdeen has confirmed that jobs will be cut in efforts to save £5.5m.

The institution is facing a deficit of £6.5m and is aiming to make savings of £5.5m this financial year in a bid to plug the deficit.

In a letter to staff, seen by STV News, several departments have now been identified for voluntary severance schemes.

A union at the institution says it will consider balloting for industrial action after the plan did not rule out compulsory redundancies.
