75% of midwives considering leaving due to pandemic, hears inquiry

More unions representing health and social care workers will give evidence later this week

The National Officer for the Royal College of Midwives has told the Scottish Covid Inquiry that the profession still hasn’t recovered since the pandemic.

As part of her evidence Emma Currer also said 75% of midwives are considering leaving the NHS because of the impact the pandemic has had on them.

The inquiry heard midwives were at “breaking point” and that there was a sense of “extreme burnout” amongst midwives due to mounting pressures.
