500,000 Scots in ‘very deep poverty’ finds new report

Campaigners want employers to do more to make having a job worthwhile

Half a million Scots are living in “very deep poverty”.

A report from the charity, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, has found women and people from ethnic minorities are disproportionately at risk.

The study found many of those affected are in work – but are held back by low pay and factors like the cost of childcare.
