Who is Sevilla's new £7.6m Scottish striker Robbie Ure?

Sevilla have turned to an uncapped Scottish striker to lead their front line.

The Spanish side announced the signing of Robbie Ure on Monday for $6.5m (£5.5m) up front, with a further $2.5m (£2.1m) in add-ons.

It is a move that is sure to catch the eye in Scotland – particularly in Glasgow – with the 22-year-old coming through the Rangers academy.

However, with the striker not making the cut at Ibrox and yet to receive a senior cap for the national side, why have Sevilla turned to the striker?

He ultimately only went on to make two appearances for the first team at Rangers – including scoring in a league cup game – before departing for Anderlecht’s reserve team, RSCA Futures, which plays in the Challenger Pro League, in 2023.

Ure made just one senior appearance, before moving to Sweden with Sirius in 2025 – which is where his career has taken off.

With 31 goals and seven assists in 50 appearances since March last year, he has helped propel the club to the top of the Allsvenskan table with a 12-point lead at the halfway stage.

He is also leading this season’s goalscoring charts, with 15 goals.

That form has not gone unnoticed, and Sevilla, who have won the Europa League a record seven times, have now brought him to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The Spanish side finished 13th in La Liga last season, so they will be hoping that Ure brings his form in Sweden alongside him, as he becomes the third Scottish-born player to play for the side in official competition.

Ure follows Ted McMinn in the 1980s and Duncan McVean Thomson during the 1915-16 season.

In terms of national football, the striker’s name was barely mentioned during any debate about who Steve Clarke should have taken to the World Cup in the summer.

He has been capped for Scotland up to the Under-19 level, but having not made a senior appearance, Ure could qualify for Ukraine, for whom he qualifies on the grandparent rule.

Scotland may not want to hang around too much longer. For now though, the Glasgow-born forward will be focusing on making an impact in Spain.

“They’re going to have someone who will give everything for this club”, he said.
