Eddie Hearn believes “everyone’s on the same page” concerning the future of Anthony Joshua in boxing.
The former two-time heavyweight champion has been out of the ring since his stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September.
Hearn spoke last month about Joshua retiring from the sport in 2026, despite the 36-year-old and long-term rival Tyson Fury not sharing a ring yet.
And the promoter told the PA news agency at the unveiling of Matchroom’s new logo on Tuesday: “I think we’re all on the same page.
“I think he feels that he’s probably got a year left. He’s 36 so it’s unlikely that he feels that he’s going to go until he’s 40 but if he keeps winning then that all changes.
“Every time you win, you hang on a bit longer, if he looks a sensation in his next fight then everyone will think that he can win a world title and those are the same people who says he should retire.”
Joshua is expected to be back in the ring later this year after a one-year lay-off following his shock Wembley defeat.
However, Hearn has still not ruled out a showdown with Fury, who retired earlier this year after a second points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December after a failed bid for the undisputed title.
Asked if Joshua and Fury could meet, Hearn said: “I think so. But I think that’s a question for Mr Fury.
“The Fury fight is the one everyone wants, so we’ll have to see.
“He’s a massive name (Joshua), he can fight whoever he wants. Once he starts to deteriorate or doesn’t look himself in camp, I’ll be the first to say to him (stop).
“We’ve been on this journey together and he’s been phenomenal, when it’s time to go it’s time to go and I don’t think it’s time to go right now.”
