Philippe Clement admits his Rangers squad remains a work in progress ahead of their Premiership opener against Hearts.
Clement’s side rounded off pre-season with a 4-4 draw against Union Berlin in Germany following defeats by Ajax, Manchester United and Birmingham.
The Light Blues stepped up their summer recruitment this week with the addition of Wolfsburg and Czech Republic winger Vaclav Cerny on a season-long loan.
With centre-back Connor Goldson expected to tie up a move to Aris Limassol, further finances could be available for Clement to bring in more experience after the emphasis was on youth in his early dealings.
Clement also believes Danilo and Oscar Cortes will get stronger after returning from long-term absences while James Tavernier started in Germany after overcoming a minor injury.
“We are taking the right steps with the players who are in the building, and we cannot do miracles,” the Belgian told Rangers TV.
“We knew with Danilo, with Oscar Cortes, if you come from that far away that they cannot be top, top now. So they’re on the right track. They are making good progress.
“We had a few other smaller things like Tav missed more than one week of training and games.
“You saw that in moments it was not sharp enough, so we need to continue in that way to make them stronger as fast as possible and then with a few other signings to make the squad better and and stronger, in depth and in quality.”
