Aberdeen's Molloy warns Rangers: 'We can get a result against anyone'

Gavin Molloy says the Dons plan to turn Pittodrie into a fortress.

Aberdeen defender Gavin Molloy believes his side can get a positive result against any team, as they prepare to face Rangers on Wednesday.

The Dons continued their stunning unbeaten start to the season with a win over Dundee United on Saturday night, meaning they go into the midweek clash at Pittodrie six points ahead of Rangers in the Premiership table.

Molloy has been an ever-present in new manager Jimmy Thelin’s side as they’ve delivered in every game so far, and he sees no reason why that can’t continue against Rangers in what is set to be an absorbing encounter.

“I think in recent history there’s been a little bit of a bit to it but we’re just going to go into it and try to beat them like every other team,” Molloy said.

“Why can’t we put it up to anyone on our day? If we believe in ourselves, like we have been, then we can get a result against anyone.

“There’s a lot of big games coming up in our schedule. It’s really packed in the next couple of months but we’re just going to look to each individual game and take them as they come.”

Aberdeen have won all nine games they have played at home across the Premiership and Premier Sports Cup and Molloy wants that to continue, with Pittodrie regaining its reputation as a tough venue to play at.

“People are seeing we are winning week in, week out, so why wouldn’t we build a fortress here?” he asked.

“We make it very hard for any team to come here and get results.

“We really felt that on Saturday, especially when we scored and when we got the penalty – even though it was disallowed. We’re really building something here.”
