Uganda winger Kassim Rogers Mato, who signed a pre-contract agreement with Hearts, is set to join the league leaders this month.
The Jambos’ initial bid of around £300,000 was rejected by FK Vardar, North Macedonia’s most successful team and current league leaders.
The 22-year-old, who started all three of his national team’s matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, then agreed a pre-contract deal with the Edinburgh side, which would see him arrive in the capital during the summer window.
In a bizarre twist, Vardar, which has suffered major financial instability in recent years, announced that a $1.3m deal had been agreed with MLS side Sporting KC
Both Hearts and the American side denied this.
A deal has been agreed for Rogers Mato to join Hearts this window. Paperwork is now being worked through to complete the transfer.
