European football’s governing body has brought disciplinary proceedings against Rangers’ Glen Kamara and Slavia Prague’s Ondrej Kudela.

It follows a match between the teams on March 18 following which Kudela was accused of racist abuse against Kamara.

The Czech player denies the allegation and Slavia said it had submitted a criminal complaint to Police Scotland alleging an attack on Kudela in the tunnels at Ibrox following the game.

The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) said Kudela had been provisionally suspended for one match while proceedings are underway.

Slavia earlier announced that the Kudela would not be travelling to London for the Czech side’s Europa League clash with Arsenal this week due to illness.

Following an investigation by UEFA’s ethics inspector, Kudela is being considered for potential racist or discriminatory conduct or for insulting players or others present at the match.

Kamara is being assessed for potential misconduct.

The midfielder said that he tried to intervene when Kudela was arguing with another player during the match.

Kamara said Kudela told him shut up before covering his mouth, leaning into his ear and saying: “You’re a f****** monkey, you know you are.”

Slavia said it has filed a criminal complaint against Kamara for physical assault with Police Scotland via the Czech embassy in London.

A statement from the club read: “[Ondrej Kudela] is a decent and modest person with a strong moral integrity, popular amongst the players and fans, a football gentleman. He categorically denies and refutes any allegations of racism.”

A statement from UEFA said: “Following an investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector regarding the incidents that occurred during the… match between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha on March 18, 2021, proceedings have been opened against Mr. Ondrej Kudela in order for the UEFA CEDB to assess a potential violation of Article 14(1) or Article 15(1)(a)(iv) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) and against Mr. Glen Kamara in order for the CEDB to assess a potential violation of Article 15(1)(g) DR.

“In accordance with Article 49 DR, the CEDB today decided to provisionally suspend Mr. Ondřej Kúdela for the next (1) UEFA club competition match for which he would otherwise be eligible for the prima facie violation of Article 15(1)(a)(iv) DR, without prejudice to any ruling that the CEDB may subsequently make on the alleged violation of Article 14(1) DR.

“Further information about this case will be made available once the CEDB has taken a decision in due course.”
