Deadline Day: Van Veen returns to Scotland, Celtic and Rangers make moves

Clubs throughout the country were busy on Thursday night as the January transfer window came to a close.

Kevin van Veen has returned to Scotland and Glasgow’s big two both made last minute signings on transfer deadline day.

Former Motherwell forward Van Veen has put pen to paper on a loan deal to Kilmarnock as he returns to the Premiership after six months at Dutch side Groningen.

Celtic left fans waiting until late in the evening to announce Republic of Ireland forward Adam Idah who joins them for the rest of the season to become their second signing of the window.

Meanwhile Rangers signed Colombian winger Oscar Cortes from RC Lens on loan with an option to buy in the summer as Ibrox youngster Adam Devine departed for Motherwell until the end of the season.

David Turnbull and Mikey Johnston both left Celtic to sign for Cardiff City and West Brom respectively, with Johnston’s move being on loan.

Elsewhere Hibs signed two new defenders and a forward and Hearts kept a hold of star Lawrence Shankland despite constant speculation throughout the month linking him with a move away.

Clubs up and down the country used the last hours of the window to finalise their squads for the challenges ahead.

With plenty to play for at both ends of the Premiership table, and the Scottish Cup still up for grabs, managers looked to fine-tune for the rest of the season.

The STV Sport live blog kept fans up to date with on the minute reports of all the comings and goings.
