Team news: Lyndon Dykes starts for Scotland against Northern Ireland

Steve Clarke has named his Scotland side to face Northern Ireland in Tuesday’s friendly at Hampden.

Clarke is looking for the team to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to Netherlands that stretched the team’s winless run to six games.

There are just two changes form the side that started in the Johan Cruyff Arena, with Liam Cooper and Lyndon Dykes coming into the side for Ryan Porteous and Lawrence Shankland.

Angus Gunn starts in goal again, with a back three of Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry and Cooper. Captain Andy Robertson and Nathan Patterson are on the flanks.

Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour are in the centre of midfield, with Ryan Christie and John McGinn playing behind Dykes.

The national team boss had revealed that the players had responded positively and “picked him up” after the disappointment of the loss in Amsterdam, which Clarke felt had included a lot of good performances before two late goals changed the complexion of the game.

Now, the players are ready for the challenge posed by Michael O’Neill’s young Northern Ireland side and are targeting a win.

“Within 24/36 hours, you are ready for the next game, you are looking for the next game,” Clarke said in his pre-match media conference.

“I get the feeling, I get the mood amongst the players that they just want the chance to get on the pitch on Tuesday night and look to improve and maybe put right the things that went wrong for us in the last stages of the game on Friday night.

“A win would be nice, a clean sheet would be nice as well. We want to play well and obviously we want to win.

“If I am being honest a win is probably more important but I think we can get both and I have no doubt we will get both.”

After the Northern Ireland match, Scotland only have pre-tournament friendlies against Gibraltar and Finland to fine-tune their preparations for the Euro 2024 group games against Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.
