One of Dundee’s most famous sons, Succession star Brian Cox OBE has shown his backing for Dundee FC’s proposed stadium move by giving his voice to a promotional film.
The ambitious Premiership club has previously shared its long-term intention to leave Dens Park for a new purpose-built facility at Camperdown Park, with the club’s hierarchy having advanced the plan over several years.
Work has continued on progressing the move, with Dundee managing director John Nelms revealing to STV News earlier this week that talks with Transport Scotland over a suitable entrance to the proposed new venue are currently holding up the move but that it’s “time to push that on and come to a final conclusion”.
Now, the club have released a film voiced by Cox that showcases the benefits of the new proposal, while reflecting on the club’s long history at their current home.
The film has sepia-tinted footage of Dens Park’s Archibald Leitch-designed stadium alongside artists’ impressions of the futuristic new facility as Cox introduces: “Camperdown, a new place to call home for generations of Dundee supporters. The legacy of Archibald Leitch honoured; the spirit of past heroes inspiring tales of glory yet unwritten.”
The classically trained actor then summons the spirit of the legendary Sir Walter Scott with a line from the classic poem, Bonnie Dundee: “Come open your gates, and let me gae free…”.
“We are grateful to Brian for agreeing to provide the voiceover for this captivating piece of film, which in many ways is a Greatest Hits for Dens Park over the decades,” Nelms said.
“We’ve said from the start of the Camperdown project that we will honour the memory of the Dens and pay homage to Archibald Leitch’s architectural brilliance in some of its design elements.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more illustrious local hero to sprinkle some Hollywood magic on the film and we have a few other surprises to excite fans within the coming weeks, hopefully culminating in a successful application for planning permission in principle.”
