Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell feels there is plenty more to come from his side after a 3-0 win over Edinburgh City at Fir Park in the opening round of Premier Sports Cup group-stage fixtures.
Kofi Balmer marked his first competitive game for Motherwell following a summer move from Crystal Palace with the opening goal from a corner just before half-time.
Dan Casey nodded in another corner to double Well’s lead soon after the restart, with Stephen O’Donnell drilling in a third on the hour to put the match beyond fourth-tier City.
“I am relatively pleased because we kept a clean sheet and scored a few goals, but we are always looking for more and I have said that to the players,” Kettlewell said in an interview with the Motherwell club website.
“We had a lot of dominance and controlled the ball but big Krisztian (Hegyi) in goal had absolutely nothing to do because there has been nothing inside our penalty box.
“Edinburgh were really well-organised and tried to make it difficult for us, but we got a goal at a crucial time to break that resolve.”
Motherwell head for Montrose for their next Group G fixture on Tuesday night.
“There will be one or two changes and it is going to be a tough game on the Astroturf,” Kettlewell said.
“Montrose continually punch above their weight and do very well.
“We have to make sure we are as well set as we can be.”
