High winds led to the Saturday's play being abandoned.

Storm Amy forces play to be stopped in Alfred Dunhill Links ChampionshipSNS Group

The third round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be played on Sunday and the competition reducedto 54 holes after high winds forced the suspension of the play.

Adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Amy had led to Friday’s play being stopped and so the second round had to be completed at the three host courses at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie on Saturday morning.

The late start to round three was short-lived, with nobody having completed more than two holes before tournament organisers suspended play.

It was then confirmed that forecasts meant the tournament would not be able to resume on Saturday.

The third round will now start on Sunday morning, with a two-tee start at all venues planned.

Tournament director Mikael Eriksson said: “Following consultation with IMG, Alfred Dunhill and the DP World Tour, the decision has been made to reduce this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship to 54 holes.

“We attempted to begin the third round this afternoon, but shortly after play started wind gusts of 56mph were recorded which resulted in play being suspended. Conditions for the remainder of the day gave us no option but to cancel the third round, which will start afresh on Sunday morning.”

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and South Africa’s Richard Sterne remain at the top of the leaderboard on 12 under par.
