Steven Pressley admitted there had been internal discussions at Dundee about Ryan Jack ahead of the Tayside derby on Sunday.
The Dee boss signed 26-year-old Edinburgh-born Ethan Hamilton from Lincoln for an undisclosed fee this week and could add more before the transfer window closes.
Former Aberdeen and Rangers and midfielder Jack – capped 20 times for Scotland – moved to Turkish side Esenler Erokspor in 2024 and the 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Dundee.
On Jack, Pressley said: “He is a player that we certainly spoke about within the club.
“I can’t say too much more on that, but with regards to Ethan Hamilton, we’re delighted that we’ve got him on board.
“He is a player that we’ve pursued for some time, but his availability wasn’t there.
“And of course, in the last week that changed. He’s a player that’s been down south from Scotland all his career, but he’s really excited about returning north of the border and we were really excited to have him on board.
“He’s a great size. He’s six foot two. He’s athletic. He’s got a little bit of an edge and he’s a really great professional – and like I said, we’re delighted that he’s joined us.”
