Stephen Robinson not looking for favours as St Mirren chase European place

Saints are in fifth place in the cinch Premiership, five points ahead of Dundee with two fixtures remaining.

Stephen Robinson insists he is not looking for any favours at Ibrox as he hopes to confirm St Mirren’s European place this week.

Saints are in fifth place in the cinch Premiership, five points ahead of Dundee with two fixtures remaining.

Anything less than a Dark Blues win against Rangers in Govan on Tuesday night will guarantee a place in Europe for the Buddies.

However, St Mirren boss Robinson is focusing only on the last home game of the season against third-placed Hearts on Wednesday night.

The Northern Irishman said: “We have to concentrate on ourselves, we can’t rely on anyone else and also, if it does happen through that we want to go out on a nice high in the last home game of the season.

“It is a brilliant game against a Hearts side who have done tremendously well this year.

“Massive credit to Stevie Naismith, he has had a fantastic season and done very well with Hearts.

“It will be a test for us and one we are looking forward to.

“We want to end the season on a high, we want to win the game, no matter what happens.

“We confirmed top six the season before with someone else’s result and I think it was the same this year.

“Football is judged over a season and we deserve to be where we are, we have proved that over the last two seasons.

“In the ideal world you want to finish it yourself but no matter what, we will be celebrating a very successful season which is probably beyond everyone’s dreams two years ago – that we would be a top six team for two seasons in a row.”
