Stephen Robinson knows St Mirren need to improve against Brann

St Mirren are preparing for the second leg of their Conference League qualifier.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is determined to prove his side are better than they showed last week against Brann as he eyes the chance to progress to a “life changing” European campaign.

Robinson described St Mirren’s journey as a “fairytale” after Toyosi Olusanya netted a late equaliser against the impressive Norwegian side in the UEFA Conference League in Paisley last week.

However, he believes his side have so much more to give as they prepare for the second leg of the third-qualifying round.

“We’re one game from getting into the next round and then with a great chance of progressing, which could be life changing for the football club and the players,” Robinson said.

“We’re not going in thinking we’ve done enough and we’re going to get plaudits for a couple of games.

“We believe we’re much better than we showed. We have to be against a very good Brann side. And that is the motivation, to show people how good you are.

“I don’t think we showed people how good we were. We went very straight, we went very long when we should have kept possession of the ball.

“We have to play better. Out of possession we were very good. We were very well drilled, very organised.

“But we didn’t play. It was arguably one of our worst performances on the ball in a few months.

“So that has to improve and we’ve spoken about that and it improved immensely against Aberdeen.

“We have to step up another 10 per cent to beat this team. They’re a good side, we made them look better because we didn’t rest and take our time on the ball, but we’ll be better for that experience.”
