Carl Starfelt is set to undergo a medical with Celtic after the club agreed a fee of £4m plus add-ons with Rubin Kazan for the defender.

The 26-year-old Swede came through at IFK Gothenburg before moving to Kazan and made 31 appearances for the Russian side last year.

He has three years left on his contract.

Though not a part of Sweden’s Euro 2020 squad, the centre-back was called up to his national team for the first time last year and has earned three international caps.

Celtic are also closing in on the signing of teenage winger Liel Abada.

The club hope to reach an agreement with Israeli side Meccabi Petah Tivka for the transfer of the 19-year-old ahead of tomorrow’s deadline to register players for the club’s Champions League tie against Midtjylland.

Celtic have already signed Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide this summer, with a number of players already having left since last season, and question marks over the future of others.

Ange Postecoglou, who took over last month, is currently putting his squad through their paces at their training camp in Wales, but is working hard to add to his options ahead of their first Champions League qualifier on July 20.
